Metallic Starlings

Metallic starlings  (Aplonis metallica) are a small passerine bird that nests in their thousands within immense breeding colonies in tropical rainforest. People For Wildlife is monitoring metallic starlings as important indicators of ecosystem health.​

Specifically, this project involves:
 
  • Annual surveys to monitor numbers of colonies within Australia’s most northerly rainforest – the Lockerbie Scrub.
  • Gathering data to assess the availability and structure of suitable nesting colony trees and how these change over time.
