Metallic Starlings

Metallic starlings (Aplonis metallica) are a small passerine bird that nests in their thousands within immense breeding colonies in tropical rainforest. People For Wildlife is monitoring metallic starlings as important indicators of ecosystem health.

Specifically, this project involves:
-
Annual surveys to monitor numbers of colonies within Australia’s most northerly rainforest – the Lockerbie Scrub.
-
Gathering data to assess the availability and structure of suitable nesting colony trees and how these change over time.
