Metallic Starling Research

These colonial breeding birds are important indicators for the health of tropical rainforests.

Metalic starlings are a small Australo-Papuan passerine birds that breed in large colonies within tall rainforest trees in tropical Queensland. Presence of helthy metalic starling colonies is a key indicator of overall ecosystem health.

The forest floor beneath the colonies is literally alive with different animals species.

People For Wildlife is monitoring the health and status of starling populations and their colonies in rainforests of Apudthama to measure ongoing health of that ecosystem over time.

At the same time, we gain important scientific insights into the ecology of

these ecosystem engineers.
